Our commitment
We build this site so it can be used by people with a wide range of abilities, on a wide range of devices. That is not a courtesy. A large part of our work is content for institutional and care environments, and a site that excluded people would be a poor advertisement for it.
The standard we build to
We target WCAG 2.2 Level AA. In practice that means:
- Semantic HTML, with headings in order and landmarks on every page
- A visible skip link to the main content, and a visible focus indicator on every interactive element
- Full keyboard operability — nothing requires a pointer
- Interactive targets of at least 44 × 44 CSS pixels
- Text and interface contrast that meets the AA thresholds
- Layouts that reflow to the available width, with no horizontal scrolling of the page and no loss of content at 400% zoom
- Meaningful alternative text on informative images, and empty alt text on decorative ones
- Form errors that name the field and the correction needed, never colour alone
- Reduced-motion support: animation is suppressed when your system asks for it
How we check
Every page is tested at six widths from 360 px to 2560 px, and a build that produces horizontal page scrolling or a broken image at any of them does not ship. Keyboard order and focus visibility are checked by hand.
Known limitations
We would rather list these than let you find them.
- Some environmental artwork is supplied below the resolution we want and appears soft on large high-density displays. It is decorative and carries no information, so nothing is lost, but it is being replaced.
- The on-page search on our error page matches page titles and summaries, not the full text of every page.
Reporting a barrier
If something on this site prevents you from doing what you came to do, tell us through the contact page and describe what happened and what you were using. We treat access barriers as defects, not feature requests, and we will tell you what we are doing about it.
